I'm not sure I see the point of these animal sanctuaries. The one near us is full of ancient sheep and unwanted male animals of all descriptions. I have given some of my time to help out in the past as , if you are going to keep these animals alive, they need to be looked after properly and they never have enough help/money but I do feel uneasy about the whole thing.

keep changing my mind on this one.....

i think all animals should have the right to live well... (as i'm sure most of us do which is why we breed our own animals)..... they didn't choose to be a hybrid and are as deserving as pure bred animals. (the rspca doesn't kill mongrels)
as long as people donating to the charity know  what they are donating to then it is no different than us keeping some animals that we have grown attached to as they were poorly.
i would rather have places so that children can learn where meat comes from and have the chance to pet animals, than for people to have micro pigs etc
well thats my thoughts at the mo but may be different in half an hour!!! ::)

at one of the shows this year lady and o/h asking about keeping pigs one of the things i ask is what are you intending to do with you pig o just keep it  your not going to fatten it and eat it o no i could not eat anything i feed i don't even allow the cockerels to be killed well what if you swapped it for somebody else,s pig o thats a good idea eh whats the point is it just that i have been brought up on a farm  or am i hardwired to the tasty succulent mouth watering vision of pork lamb turkey chicken and anything else that we can produce

well if youve seen cockerals or rams fighting and injuries u know they cant all play happy families. stallions will chase their sons away after certain point. our shearling ram got into our pet ram's (dear bobby) field this winter and severely beat him up, cut his head and face, and gave him an absess on eye. nature can be cruel, not good enough to breed from so will be going to butcher very soon, (actually long overdue so my fault and could have bin avoided) and theyre meat is sooo good. bin holding off actually cos really wanted to keep the skins, anyone know how? seems such a waste not to have them back.
