My partner was made redundant eighteen months ago and he couldn't find a job that was suited to his training so he joined a couple of agencies and did whatever was going. Eventually (a week ago) he found the perfect full-time permanent job.
He was unemployed for less than a week.
unfortunately i cannot take a day here a day there that the agencies are offering me its all rubbish they offer me and yes if i was single i would take it but if i do this now i will loose all my benifits or what i do get and then will have to  sign on again in 6 weeks but im not into playing games have a few days this week  few next i need a full time job as the 1st hour of work i do i will lose everything and wont be able to afford to live and be worse off from what i am now  but im applying to about 20 jobs a week so im hoping i get a job asap

Good luck in your search. The agencies down here seem to be better off than yours as Jim was working six and sometimes seven days a week. I would have forgotten where I was going!!

I know this has nothing to do with the original message but here goes

Firstly good luck to all those looking for a job

Secondly I know of 3 jobs going full time permanent at £12,500 a year (warehouse)

Droitwich, Worcestershire

If anyone lives that way

I am surprised no one jumped at our offer, oh well

We had our offer accepted, so i suspect 2 months down the line we will be the scared owners of our future

We think we've done ok

Brick barn with planning to convert to a 3 bed house (already started new roof on)
planning to build a double garage
planning for an access driveway
approx 1/2 mile driveway (owned by us)
8.55 acres of level land stock fenced
1 boundry with a large stream 230 yards of fishing rights
1 boundry 20 metres from barn is the river ifon (salmon river) with 650 yards of fishing rights
Electric on land approx 120 metres away
Mains water 1/2 mile down drive on our land
Mains sewerage on land 300 metres away

All we have to do know is convert it (sounds easy)

I'm still interested and have sent you another PM

Sounds brilliant - many congratulations! You're right to plan in some "down time" sailing. It's so easy to get to working on the holding every waking minute and if you're not actually working, you're planning what to do next  ;D

if only i had a source of income or id be at this like a shot but could not do it without money coming in from somewhere. shame your not closer lol

A rather interesting point, we live in Great Britain, you don't need an income if you have no money coming in and none saved then our benefits system will feed and cloth you, our friends moved to the middle of nowhere sold their car (supposedly) therefore becoming unemployable as public transport u.s they have been on income support for over 10 years, they sign on every 3 months.

They have no mortgage, council tax paid (council tax benefit) and recieve over £100 per week
Their statement "What on earth are we mean't to spend all that money on"

I maybe niave (and fortunate to have an income) but isn't the idea grow, breed EAT
and live but a simple life.

This post touched a nerve with me. Your friends are nothing but spongers, as far as I'm concerned if you make yourself unemployable you should get sweet FA. I hope they get investigated for fraud. I have no problem with people living off their own means. Just as long as they don't expect a handout from us taxpayers. Britain and Europe are not third world countries and work is relatively easy to come by.

Congratulations we wish you the best with your new venture :)

-----

On the separate note - If you can happily live on £100 a week then go for it as far as I am concerned, I dont give a hoot if some of my tax money goes to people who are happy to live on the breadline, as although the benefit spend is massive in the UK, its not one of its biggest spends that need to be cut.  As long as people are not breaking into my house, car or garage for cash then its a far better solution to decrease poverty.  Personally my petrol and diesel bill is more than £100 a week so I have no idea how people could survive on it and still create opportunities for themselves and their families to a road that betters their financial situation.  - Also who knows in the past or in the future its possible that they may pay it all back in tax when jobs are found for them.

There are loads of people who also claim state benefits in the form of topups and claim more than what they pay into the tax system and these are what you would call 'normal working' people and are never (and should not be) persecuted for claiming.

Its the massive benefits that some people get for extortionate rents in town houses that bugs me because the main beneficiary from this is an already asset rich landlord/lady.

I agree that sometimes it seems a little unfair that some of mates are life long benefit claimers - but on the other hand we all have the option to do it as well if we wanted, which seems a fair system to me.

all these notes on benefits,

I have quite an open mind and can see both sides and pretty much agree with all the points of view here.

The Inland revenue did a study a couple of years ago, the berevaty of the report was:-

If a person earns less than the national average wage throughout their working life they are a net reciever;

This means if your average, go to school, have your bins collected, have 2 children etc etc and you do not earn £25,000 a year every year of your working life then your actually taking from the system more in financial terms than your giving.

Therefore this applies to 92% of the population at some point and 68% of the population for their entire life.

So in knowing this you may be a benefit claimant (in some way) or certainly some of your family will be, should you or them be classed as cheats as you could in theory push yourself harder get a better job and earn more??

Some people are just happy with their lot.

Another thought! most people i know are aiming to retire at some point with a pension (state) this is a benefit,
are people who do not work just early retiree's ?? is it not that they are possibly smarter than the rest of us??

All mean't in an extremely light hearted manner these are just thoughts and are not my opinions.

Hi There,
Good luck with your venture, I have a smallholding with a house being built on it some 600 miles from me, we just need to sell our house here and then we will be free to start a new life.

A friendly word of advice about letting someone live on your land for free, beware of squatters and maybe it would be best to get some legal agreement drawn up in case things go pear shaped.

Good Luck,

Hi All,

Probably not a good idea to discuss benefits, it only leads to fall outs, leave it to the politicians to mess things up, lighten up and discuss smallholding instead and try to forget about the  big brother state,

happy Days................
