I saw this on the South news last night  :o shocking. The dog handler is not facing any disciplinary procedures within the Police force. But the RSPCA are investigating (I won't hold my breath then).

Poor, poor, dog  :(

I don't understand what you mean. The deaths of these 2 dogs has been on every news programme and newspaper in the last 24 hours.

..and the information that's been on every news program and in every paper has been extremely overview and often contradictory. I have seen nothing reliable and conclusive reported, just the usual media feeding frenzy.

The bottle line in that situation is that 2 dogs not only died, but died in a horrific way.

There is no contridictory news reports, no overview, they died, someone is to blame!! There can be no 2 sides to this story! Its not as if the dogs and the police would have a different view of the same situation. The medis cannot muddle up the details of this, and take sides!!!!

I really hope they are charged with this offence, if it was you or I, we would be already in a police station with our remaining animals being taken off us!!

Well the link is there, e mail the Police Chief and ask her side of the story. 2 Dogs are unnecessarily and, cruelly.

Some reports claim they were found by an RSPCA officer while others claim the RSPCA were called in by the police. The Telegraph claims both, one after the other. This is a contradiction and the reality of which happened is quite relevant to the investigation. The entire story is overview, there are no specifics past the fact two dogs died a disturbing and readily avoidable death. The rest of your comments are short sighted reactionary noise and do nothing to help the situation or attempt to prevent it from occurring again. There are always two sides to a story. At least two. What those are will be highly relevant to whether or not the RSPCA or local police force take action against those responsible and at this point in time I have seen absolutely no information regarding the events which led to the dogs' death.

I really hope they are charged with this offence, if it was you or I, we would be already in a police station with our remaining animals being taken off us!!

That's just entirely inaccurate. It's actually very difficult for the police or RSPCA to remove animals from private ownership, far too difficult. This is a problem the RSPCA face on a daily basis where they have full knowledge an animal has been neglected or abused yet still need to go through far too lengthy processes to be able to remove those animals from their owner. Even by this point, they very rarely have the ability to remove any other animals from the owner at the same time. As for the potential of up to 6 months custodial sentence and/or up to £20,000 fine, do you have any idea how rare it is for CPS to even take such a case to court let alone for a judge to impose any form of meaningful sentence for the few found guilty? This has absolutely nothing to do with the police versus the rest of us and everything to do with highly ineffectual laws which no one with the authority to do so wants to act on.

Unfortunately it's very quickly become obvious this is yet another angry fist shaking thread where anyone who attempts to be rational is shouted down. For the situation itself, I'll continue following it and write to a relevant person when the inquiries have been completed and, with any luck, some additional information will be made available. As for this thread on the subject, I'm out.

Thank god - you make judgements on everyone else that opposes your thoughts! What does it matter who found the dogs - they were dead, that's enough.

All I managed to get out of your overinformed comment was blah blah blah, cmorrell!!

Who cares who found them? Who cares who phoned the RSPCA? And who cares for your , higher than thou, attitude in a situation that two dogs died in.

Get over yourself!!!!

These vans are fitted with a ventilation system. Did it cease to function? Did someone jam it? Are these not pertinent questions that you should be asking......or is it just hang the copper day?

If you look on Nottinghamshire Police's site, there is some infromation. The Police reported it to the RSPCA, who are investigating.

This might have been stupid but I'm sure it wasn't deliberate cruelty and yes, someone shoudl have known better. But let's not hang anyone yet.

I'm sure the investigation will be published soon. What's the point of speculating?

I'm, by no means, saying it was a deliberate act.

I just think that, regardless of the polices' action, the officer should be charged with culpable homocide. They didn't intentionally allow their dogs to suffer and die, but they did ultimately caused their death.

In the real world, thats culpable homocide.

listened to this on radio 2 they were not in a police dog van but a private vehicle as the officer was off duty at the time and called in to the station to pick something up. however the station had kennels that were air conditioned but the dogs were left in the vehicle, comments from the vet who spoke on radio 2 were bearing in mind the temperature on the day they could of died in 10mins.................
