Backyard Poultry Keeping Course
If you’ve every fancied keeping your own hens for really fresh, free-range eggs, but haven’t “plucked up” the courage, we can help!

Come along to our smallholding in Barry, by Carnoustie and learn the basics of backyard poultry keeping.
Course overview
On our half-day course we’ll cover
- Housing and bedding
- Feeding
- Buying hens
- Handling hens
- Health and hygiene
- Legislation
You'll get the opportunity to handle our hens and see how the theory translates into practice. There will be opportunities for questions and discussion.

- Saturday 4th May, 9.30am to 1pm
- Sunday 2nd June, 9.30am to 1pm
- Sunday 7th July, 9.30am to 1pm
The course costs £40 including refreshments.
Course location
The course will be held on our smallholding in Barry, Angus. We are 8 miles north of Dundee, on the east coast of Scotland. There is plenty of car parking. We offer a pick-up service from Carnoustie Railway Station which has regular trains from the north and south.

About Rosemary Champion
Rosemary lives on a 12 acre smallholding in Angus, in the east of Scotland, where she keeps Ryeland Sheep, Shetland cattle and assorted poultry. She was destined to be a smallholder from an early age.
