When to slaughter Cuckoo Marans
« on: August 25, 2008, 01:42:38 pm »
Hello,

We have a dozen Cuckoo Marans born on the 21st June. As we have no prior experience of these birds we don't know at what age they will be suitable for slaughter. We have 7 roosters and 5 hens.
Can anyone advise ?

Cheers

Gavin

I assume your'e going to keep the hens as layers. We killed Hubbards, a meat strain at 12 weeks and, oven ready, they were between 5.5lb and 7lb. We previously killed Light Sussex at about 25 weeks and they were about 4lb oven ready - lots of leg, v little brest. Tasted fine, though.
