Weaned kids shouting!!
« on: July 16, 2017, 07:06:35 am »
We weaned 5 of our kids yesterday. They are in a separate barn away from their mums now. We sometimes leave them to wean naturally but this time two of the does look worn out so we thought we would intervene. Therefore only the second time we have done this.
The noise this morning is deafening.
The kids sound like they are being murdered!! They have ad lib hay , have had their pellets and have plenty of water.
Is there anything I can do to calm them down or is it best to just ignore and hope it passes quickly.
Thanks

As you have done, give them all they need and retire to the house with ear plugs and a bottle of wine.  They're going to shout, just hope they settle quickly.

Sounds like a plan. Can't think about it today anyway as today's job is to load pigs into the trailer and after 5 hours they are still not in!!
Animals eh?
Thank you for your help

For pigs, a few days before I need to load I park the trailer in the corner of their patch and arrange the electric fence so they can go up the ramp but not round the sides.  put their feed inside, they soon learn to go in.
The problem I have is getting them out at the abattoir. Had a problem with goats and sheep last week.  I'm sure the men have a good laugh each time I go watching me trying to push animals out.. Pigs have nothing to get hold of.

Thank you. We have never ever had such a problem as we did yesterday and this morning they are still exhausted ( so are we!)
We live and learn....
