Hello, I've got ducks, WHAT DO I DO!
« on: November 21, 2016, 11:44:31 am »
Hello all,

I've been part of small holding lifestyle since I was born in a barn and.. well... you get the idea.

I have moved about for the last few years and not had much in the way of time/space to play. Recently my mother in law has decided to raise muscovy ducks. Never been much of a fowl person but they are growing on me. We have had our first hatch and everyone is looking good.

Anyone have advice on what to do next? We are raising them for both eggs and meat.

Cheers!

Muscovies are fantastic for meat but don't lay many eggs I'm afraid! A clutch of about a dozen and that's it! If you're lucky you might get second clutch and most likely no more eggs per female in a year.
If you want more eggs go for something like campbell or welsh harlequin or chickens ????
Growing loads of fruits and vegetables! Raising dairy goats, chickens, ducks, rabbits on 1/2 acre in the middle of the city of Leicester, using permaculture methods.
