Progesterone Sponge
« on: September 21, 2016, 12:57:25 am »
Hi, does anyone use these sponges on their goats?  The type I've been supplied is Chronogest.
The info says 1 sponge for 11 days, but a goat keeper has told me to use one for 8 days then put another in for another 8 days. Tomorrow (Wed) is the first 'day 8', i don't know which to do.
Also I think she was in season a few days before I used it, showing interest in the boys for a day but no calling or flagging. Does she need an injection after sponge is removed, or will she come in naturally.
Didn't like the idea of sponging, and it's a bit early for my liking, but I've had to, to use the male I want.
Would appreciate any advice  :)

I use the Chronogest sheep ones - two sponges, 8 days each and you shouldn't need a PMSG injection, unless you do AI when it seems to be part of the process.

She should be in season 36 too 48 hours after sponge No 2 comes out.
