Undershot beaks in ducks
« on: August 09, 2016, 06:19:10 pm »
I have 12 ducklings that hatched about 6-7 weeks ago, out of eggs from my 4 pet ducks (and the drake that lives with them). They are growing fantastically and very strong healthy ducklings, all reared naturally by a broody duck. Today I noticed that 3 have slightly undershot beaks- what would cause this? I have hatched eggs from 2 of the ducks previously and not had a problem. The other 2 ducks hatched last year- both have no conformational faults and their beaks are fine. The ducklings have been on Allen & Page smallholder goose & duck grower or chick crumb (non medicated) and free range. What could have caused the beak issue? It doesn't affect them eating or drinking and they are growing well. Just wondered if anyone else had experienced this.
