hi there, my family has a couple of acres near the coast in south west wales.

It's all overgrown and needs some love and attention.

We are not experienced and have lots to learn.

Plans are for lots of fruit trees, as I hear they give the best value for the least amount of effort.

So realistically we are aiming for several different varieties of fruit trees suitable for this climate.

Our dream is to build a large pit greenhouse or walipini as they are sometimes called, then grow some tropical fruit trees and some mornings trees.

I'm going to be studying and learning a lot this year, hope to learn a lot from this forum. Such a wealth of info I have read already, what a great forum.

Same here, we are never short on water.

I often wonder why I pay so much for water rates both coming in and going out. Especially when it has got such horrible things in it, like flouride and antidepressants that get absorbed into the plants.

Money doesn't grow on trees, but water does fall from the sky for free.

I would love a compost toilet, for the solid waste, and keep urine separate to mix with rainwater for my plants. Why pay for waste going out? I would like to make use of it all.

Getting set up for rainwater harvesting need not be too difficult. I expect the cost of a few years water bills would cover a lifetimes set up for rainwater harvesting.

Yes, we have a lot of rain but it does have its benefits. I have my own water supply and therefore don't pay water rates

You have a well or borehole?

I think we have enough rainfall over the year to not need one, but instead I need to invest in large containers and filtration systems.

We have a well. The water is pumped from the well into a holding tank and then fed down to the house. The well also automatically feeds watering tanks for the animals.
