Coughing pig
« on: July 01, 2015, 10:56:23 am »
One of my weaners, 13 weeks old, has a cough. She seems to be well in all other respects, eating well, pooing, happy to have her back and tummy scratched. It has been very dry and I was wondering if that might be the problem.
I have made a wallow and wetted other parts of the pen this morning.
Should I be worried and should I do anything else?
If she was coughing all the time and or off her food I would of course be speaking to the vet

Hello,

We have often had a mystery cough. Our pigs are foraging free range so I think when its dry they suck up dust. Its worth making sure your worming is up to date as funnily enough worms can make them cough but we haven't ever really found that to be the cause.

Doesn't seem to ever affect the big guys just the odd grower. Dry like you say, unpleasant to watch but they never seem to get poorly.

Hope yours is the same  :fc:
