Drystone walling & Heather thatch Course

The Scottish Crofting Federation are trying to organise a course in drystone walling  and traditional heather thatching. Lucy Beattie at the SCF office says we only need another 6 people and the course can go ahead, it would be in Ullapool.

People don't need to be SCF members so if your interested please e mail Lucy on

Any idea on dates and cost. I would defo be up up for it but the dates would matter?

No idea of dates yet. I think the courses are usually about £60, less if you are an SCF member.

I enquired about the course, but did not even get an acknowledgement.

I always wanted to learn how to build a stone wall, sadly I cannot afford courses and don't have the time. I've always dreamed of having dry stone walls on my farm, however having buffalo means that they would probably trash em. ::)

Sorry to hear that, do you want me to pass on your details? Lucy e mailed me today to say she nearly has enough people to run a course so it looks like it will go ahead. Let me know......
