« on: March 17, 2015, 02:53:23 am »
Well this is the smallest kid i think i will see.
Found them 10 am Monday  morning never expected them to last the hour out.
Proper little fighters they have turned out to be.  Now 3am Tuesday morning fingers crossed
Anyone with any experience with very premature kids any advice would be appreciated

Are they feeding from Mum?
If so you shouldn't have too much problem.

Have you weighed them, how prem are they.
The angora kids always look too small but do fine.

PS.  That heat lamp looks a bit close to the doe.

Depends how premature and how well they are feeding. Usually if born after day 140 you have a good chance of them surviving everything else being normal.

Hi thanks for responses
No they are not feeding from mum, she had no milk to speak of at time.
Have another Doe kidding anytime so under curcumstances i managed to get some colostum from her
for the first couple of hand feeds.
Then used lamblac, been milking mother to get milk she has some this morning which i have hand fed.
relief thats coming now.
Doe came in at just 1kg and buck 2kg thats all.
Heat lamp i know its low been with them constant me or partner.
Going to raise it a bit now just wanted them warm through night.
Found them out side on wet floor stiff, doe had no respones at all buck was barely breathing.
Took them straight in house to recover for 4/5 hours before they were returned to mother.

She hs bonded with them its her first kidding suprised after the enforced break and poor girl looked lost as what to do, mind you not a lot she could of at time.

If necessary tube feed the kids, and check that they are stretching in a contented manner so to speak if you go and wake them up. Give them a good poke, and check how they get up. Good stretch - they are fed well, getting up and whining - they are hungry. You may have to hold the doe to make sure they feed.

 :fc: the come on.

They may not be as premature as you think as they look fully haired up.  When I have had prem kids they have been missing some or all their hair.

My  first ever kidding was 10 days ago, buck came in 6kg doe 5kg , you can imagine my suprise at this pair.
Photos a bit decieving imo the doe is the size of your hand.
That must be a scary sight hair missing

Thats really odd- we've had premature kids and they have always had hair. Even this year we had two born 4 weeks early, and they had hair. Very short and fuzzy hair obviously, but still hair.

Good luck with your two mart

update

Sadly the little girl passed away, gutted, she seemed the stronger of the two as well.
The little boy is a fighter still not to keen on suckling only 10 /15 seconds tops and seems reluctant to go back unless prompted.
Fingers crossed just been to feed him and he was up suckling himself and better still kept going back and nudging her 7 days old today. First time i have seen him jumping about  :)

Sorry to hear about the girl, sounds like it was touch and go from the first with no response when you found them.  :bouquet:

Such a shame you lost the little girl but the boy sounds as if he's doing really well.

Well little boy is suckling by himself now, looks like a very small newborn.
On other end of the scale i had a doe kid early Wednesday morning 1.30am two large boys one 5kg other 6kg. All by hersel f  i last checked at 12.30 was shocked when i walked in at 4am to find them.
Replayed cctv whole birth took 20 mins start to finish and second kid followed straight after first virtualy no break. Was a bit worried she passed placenta but had fair bit still attached thought she may prolapse kept close eye on her but it detatched and fell away 15 hours later to my relief
Well thats my forth doe and none have shown any signs of going into labour until just before giving birth.
Size difference with the little lad is marked.
