Tit bits for lambs
« on: July 18, 2014, 10:01:38 am »
Well - we have our lamb back from the vet after having her eye removed and she is making progress in her pen.

She will be penned for the next five days as she needs an antibiotic injection every day and her pack removing on Sunday.

I am giving her fresh cut grass and she is chomping her way through it.

Has anybody got any suggestions for little treats/tit bits that I can give her in addition?

At this time of year we have no sheep nuts or hay or anything.

I would be very careful feeding cut grass they will eat it a lot quicker than they would if they were grazing and could cause bloat especially if her system is already compromised from having treatment for her eye.

I would buy a bale of hay and feed that, far safer. I had a lamb penned up for 10 days a couple of months back due to a joint infection and she just ate hay and creep with her friend that I bought in for company.

Hay.  You should be able to find someone that you can get just a bale or two from.
And I would get a bag of coarse mix or lamb nuts I'm afraid, it will give her the right sort of energy and minerals that she needs to recover.

OK. I will call our local chap and see if he's got a bale. Thanks

Country/feed stores should also stock it all year round just make sure whatever you buy is last years hay not cut this year.

Ours are pushed over to grass now with hay in the evening and a few handfuls of a flaky mix as a gesture.
