Pig ark from oil tank
« on: April 12, 2011, 12:49:01 pm »
Hi there
I seem to remember a thread from someone who converted an old large plastic oil tank to a pig ark.

Can anyone direct me please.

Thanks in advance

Darren

Hi
It might have been me !
It's an old (but unused) square metal oil tank that my Kune Kune's live in. We cut a door in the front and made an opening hatch in the side to load in straw and make it easier to sweep out. The filling hatch on the top makes an ideal vent when the weather gets hotter.
If you were using a plastic one I would imagine it would be much the same. Though you'll need to pressure wash it and disinfect it all if it has been used for heating oil.
Hope that helps, please get in touch if there's anything else I can help with.

What a fantastic idea we have an old one standing idle.

Happy Hippy. Thank you very much for advice. We kept a saddleback on friend's ground last year and have decided to keep a few this year so your help is really appreciated.

Regards

Darren.

P.S. If any one over here in N.I. needs an oil tank for this purpose let me know as I can get my hands on another 2.

Don't suppose you could use your powers of levitation to fly them to Scotland  ;)

Here's a photo (granted, it's not a very good one - just cropped from another photo) but I'll try and remember to take the camera out tomorrow morning and get some better ones.

Better picture of the arc/tank for you.

We used an old plastic oil tank, chopped one end of the curve off, where the tap was, and that makes a little ark itself for a few weaned piglets. Ours was unused as it was damaged. Really handy as they are easy to drag about.
