Cool but mostly dry, and calm start to spring
« on: February 28, 2011, 05:07:39 pm »
The next few days will be chilly, and on Monday there may be some light rain, sleet or snow in the south east on Monday for a time, though other areas should be dry. Spring begins on Tuesday, and it looks as though it will be mostly dry, and quiet as high pressure builds over the country. This is likely to set the pattern for the rest of the week with mostly dry weather and variable amounts of cloud. Ssshhhhh - Quiet Weather
It's been a while since we've seen high pressure in charge, but this week will change all that as a large high pressure cell moves in and sits right over the top of the UK, settling the weather right down to give some good sunny spells by day with the payback for that being some frosts by night.

Before the high pressure takes over though, we do have some weather occurring today with bits and pieces of mainly light rain, with sleet and snow over the higher ground affecting England and Wales - blown inland from the east on a distinctly chilly breeze.

We also have a band of rain doing it's best to move in from the northwest over Scotland during the day, it'll tend to struggle and fizzle out as it moves southeast but it will bring some patchy rain to the north and west during the latter part of the day. This will in fact be a recurring feature through the week as fronts try to move in against the high pressure, they're never likely to amount to much but the far north and west of the country is likely to see some rain coming and going at times.

After a frost in parts of western England and Wales overnight tonight, Tuesday will see the rain in the north and the south die away and with the cloud slowly breaking there should be some reasonable bright or sunny spells developing through the day.

The high pressure then takes over through the remainder of the week, so don't expect any significant changes - with more dry, bright days but chilly nights to come.                     well the spring forcast
Precipitation
Over the three month period precipitation levels are generally expected to be close to average.

March
Temperature: Close to average
Precipitation: Close to average
First half
The first half of the month will start with a good deal of dry and rather chilly weather, with variable amounts of cloud. During the second week of the month a change to less settled weather is expected, with all areas seeing some rain, and some sleet or snow likely over high ground in the north. It may also become quite windy at times.

Second half
The second half of the month is likely to start off unsettled, with showers or longer spells of rain affecting all of the country at times. With close to average temperatures there will be a risk of sleet or snow at times over high ground in the north. Increasingly settled and brighter weather may return later, with temperatures close to average.

Ice here in North Yorks this morning but absolute glorious sunshine ;D
It makes the whole world seem a better place! Really need some dry weather if we're ever going to get the paddocks dry enough to get piglets out at the end of the month.
Don't mind the cold so long as its dry.

Far far better here too tho the back field is still ankle deep in welliesucking mud the rest is drying off nicely and I can see spring coming even if we get another wee burst of wintry weather later in the month.

How long is this good spell set to last?  I want to arrange a colt to be castrated and am tempted to book him in next week...
