nematodirus - effective doses?
« on: May 06, 2015, 10:59:48 am »
newbie question... going to buy worm dose for my lambs for nemo and just wondering what sort of doses there are to save time reading through labels in the store (some store clerks haven't a clue about this stuff - others do). Is noramectin effective for nemo? ?

thanks

Buy a group 1, white wormer, a cheap one, and use it just for Nemo.  Panacur would do, and it comes in small quantities.  (http://www.eblex.org.uk/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/BRP-Parasite-control-guide-030315.pdf)
Noromectin (a group 3, clear product) would work, but in order to avoid building up resistance I would reserve using that until later in the year when other worm species are more prevalent.  I use Parafend as the lamb's first worming for nemo in May, and then Noromectin later in the year if needed.

Take a look at the SCOPS website (Sustainable Control of Parasites in Sheep).  It won't give you a snappy, one sentence answer but it's really important stuff to take on board.

My vet advised exactly as per Foobar's post yesterday.
They dispensed me a small quantity of Endospec (another white wormer) to treat my lambs, dosage is 2ml for up to 10kg body weight.

As an aside the dispenser in the feed store should be really clued up, to trade.  That's a poor show by the shop.  Ours has one on duty at all times.  I'd go elsewhere Hun.

I bought oramec on the way home from work. It's a yellow drench . I bought it as its the smallest sized product they had for nematodirus .It can be returned if I find a small amount of white drench before Friday (dose day) . Hopefully I do find some

Oramec is ivermectin based and is from a different group to the white drenches. ML macrolytic lactone group.
