squabbling chooks
« on: October 04, 2010, 08:53:40 pm »
ok we snuck the 3 new birds in with the 6 older birds last night and all was fine till we let them out in the run this morning, they have spent the whole day squabling, the 3 new ones ended up hold up in the house and the old ones clustered round the water trough so as to block access to it and every time the new ones came out they were chased back in!!!!

i forced them all back into the house tonight and they settled ok.

will they settle down eventually, im happy to let them sort it out but my wife is getting nearly as flustered as the chickens...

we are still very new at this as you can tell.

Yes, they'll be fine. As long as there aren't any wounds that are being pecked at.
It's where the phrase 'pecking order' came from  ;) A week from now all should be back to normal, although you may find your existing hens go off the lay for a while.
