I've just bought a load of the second type and they are OK if a little flimsy. I've got a load of the heavy plastic ones which are better but expensive. For cleaning I have a cheap pressure washer that you can set the water to a fan by tightening the nozzle. Every few months a good blast with that gets rid of any build up.
