Do pigs climb slope?!
« on: February 27, 2013, 11:34:22 am »
I know pigs can't fly but how how are they climbing banks?

One side of the area I want to fence them in on is the boundary of my neighbours land and mine, currently a natural boundary of about a 4ft high bank, the gradient is shallowest about 55 degrees in places.

In terms of costs, if I could get away with not fencing this boundary I'd be able to provide the pigs with a much larger area, but it is the most important boundary!

To the laymans eye it looks like inquisitive piglets might be able to scamper up, but unlikely for a larger pig, but thought I'd check with experienced owners.

Do pigs have a propensity to climb banks?!

YES,
Well mine did at any rate. Actually it wasn't even a slope, it was vertical. Over the space of a few months where they kept trying to climb it they had brought mud and stone down which acted as a ledge they could climb on to get them higher.

Definitely keep a close eye on them

Mugball I'm afraid you are going to have to fence it pigs adult and piglets will climb a very steep bank at a suprising pace.

Yes!  We have a hillside that, in places is almost a 1:2, but is more like a 1:3 in much of it and a 1:4 in others.  But the pigs had no problem in climbing banks that were somewhere between the 1:2 and 1:3  :pig: :pig: :pig:

a grown pig can get onto or over a 4ft wall like its just a toy, if its solid they'll get on/over it. you need to fence it.
