Greetings from West Cumbria.
Not much of a smallholding but I do produce roughly 250kg a year of fruit & veg from a 13mx3.2m plot in my back garden (including 8'x6' greenhouse).
Been waiting far too long (with multiple broken promises) to get an allotment, as I want chickens & eggs too.
I also hunt & fish for as much as possible rather than buy meat, though ribeye steaks still come from my local butcher...

Hello and welcome from Carnoustie  That's a fab yield - I must do better next year. I subscribed to a gardening newsletter last year, used muck tea on my leeks and am going to follow all th advice bext year becaue I have fantastic leeks - whihc I've never been able to grow successfully before

Hi Oddbod and welcome. Perhaps chickens are no longer a reason to get an allotment? Two big issues are security and avian flu. I think some allotments don't allow chickens for whatever reason? My first thought was running chickens under fruit trees eventually leads to great crops. The reason I say eventually is because it takes year or two for the enzymes in the ground to develop to be able to convert the poo to plant food. Anyway, good luck to you. Hope your crops do better than ours. It seems with global warming the South of France may soon be a desert? We had no rain and record temperatures for 12 weeks.
