Hi. My name is Andy and i live near to Ironbridge in Shropshire with my wife and two daughters. We have recently inherited 10 acres of rough grazing and some old farm buildings about 8 miles from our house. Along with the land comes 18 Hebridean ewes, a ram and this years lambs! We are also building a house on the site as well as managing jobs, family and everyday life so not a minutes rest (although we love it and know we are very lucky). This site was recommended to me by a friend so i have just registered today. I will be seeking sheep advice from you guys soon as i have some ram lambs that could be a problem if i don't shift them soon.

You'll need to get the male lambs out, if they are entire, when they are 41/2 to 5 months old, but they won't go for slaughter until they are 16 months, so about July-Aug next year after overwintering them. So you need to separate them out into another field, in Aug for April born lambs. If you don't have anywhere to keep them, you could sell them as stores for someone else to rear to slaughter. If your new flock is registered, then you can advertise the male lambs on the Hebridean Sheep Society website, as unreg stores

Hi and thanks to everyone for the welcome. Special thanks to fleecewife for the advice on my ram lambs. I do have another field so will separate them out soon and decide what to do going forward.
