Hi

Has anyone been affected with the Blue Tongue virus (Fevre Catarahl) that seems to be all over Europe now??

Our ram, Bo, contracted it but thankfully after antibiotics and anti inflammatory's he seems to be over it and back to his old self much to the annoyance of 'the ladies' of the parish!!

Scotland is still BT free. A compulsory vaccination programme starts 1st November until 1st April, I think, when the vector season is over.

Mine have now been vaccinated. It has not been long since the Welsh assembly allowed it to be done, a mattter of weeks but only on a voluntary basis. Scotland has the right idea that it should be compulsoy.
Wales government are incouraging farmers to vaccinate, `but I know at least half a dozen people who are not going to vaccinate until after lambing as they have heard that the vaccine can affect the tupping (rubbish according to our vet) which could then be too late.

Ours have been vaccinated, very interesting that yours has recovered from blue tongue as i understood sheep were ones to be worst affected.? by outbreaks. cheers neil

we are due to vaccinate. Northumberland came into the vaccination zone 1st september. however some of our ewes are in with the tup, others are due to lamb in about 10 weeks so our gimmers are being covexin8ted and the early lambers will be getting their cv8 injections after that. Our vet reckons we will have to wait until after lambing now as there is a slight abortion risk and current reccommendations are that no other vaccines are used at the same time.
