Lamb tags - a little confused
« on: June 26, 2018, 08:20:51 pm »
Hi,

I’m selling around 90 store lambs which I will be tagging with EID tags with our flock number on. However, 20 odd lambs were bought in a few weeks ago and already have a tag with number from holding of birth. Do I need to reflace these ones with my own number or just the ones that I bred here?

Thanks!

Just tag the ones born on your holding.

Only time you replace is if both tags lost, then you replace with red ones with your number on.

The whole point of the tagging system is so the animals can be traced right back to their holding of birth in the event of a disease outbreak, so no don't change the tags.
The tagging system is very poorly explained, and is one of the most frequent 'help' questions on TAS.  Defra gobbledegook!
