I charge £1 and was wondering if this was too little? I have no idea how much they cost in supermarkets! I'm off to have a look!

A friend of mine has been asked to bake all the cakes for the village store so she's asked me to keep her supplied with eggs - as this will be a regular thing, I don't want to be diddled!

I leave my eggs in a box by the field gate and people help themselves.  £1 for 6 ......some people have said thats very cheap, yet others seem to think its pay what you like and leave 50p, even though it does say they are £1.

Some of the boxes people leave me, have the price on, and I have noticed supermarket ones can be up to £1.80 for 6, and I saw one box with a price of £2.20!!!

I know a man in the village has a sign up saying £1.50 per dozen, so if I put my egg price up, people would probably go there, as I am already pricier than him.

I definitely do not make a profit - the cost of feed sees to that, so really I should increase prices, but risk people not buying then,.

i charge £1.50 per dozon carnt keep in with them but money from eggs feeds 28 layers , 4 brahmas, 11 silkies, 6 orpingtons, 1 ferret and 2 goats so not bad ho yes and 8 turkeys (BUT ONLY TILL XMAS)

£1 for 6.  some nearby are selling 90p for 6.

When we first put ours out the lady up the road, who was selling them for £1.20, put hers down to a £1 to match our prices.  We thought we'd started a price war but fortunately she soon realised that we were only selling, sorry, requesting a donation for, 1/2 dozen a day she quickly put her prices back up to £1.20.

I think it's too cheap, comapred to supermarkets, but, then again, I'm not in it for the money and it covers the cost of feed so I'm not overly fussed and it essentially means we get free eggs (although have spent a mint on anti-Red mite potions!!!)

Yes, my egg money has gone on red mite stuff too.  Two other ladies started selling eggs after me, just down the lane .....but see they have now stopped.  Either their hens have stopped laying, or I had the monopoly of customers, and they were not getting any sales.  Thats one of the reasons I am miffed about moving - losing my egg customers.

£1.50 an we can't keep up. I've just bought 14 pol - hope they start laying soon. I sold 1/4 dozen the other day 'cos the bloke had cycled down specially and there was only 3 eggs in the nest boxes. Starting to get regulars and orders now.  Don't under charge.

I was selling the hen eggs for £1 per 6 and £1.50 for the ducks but all my customers were telling me I was way too cheap. Now sell both for £1.50 and they sell no bother. Mind you the ducks have stopped laying for now.

£1.20 for 6 hen eggs and £1 for 6 bantam eggs.  Will have to put the price up in the new year, possibly to £1.50 and £1.20 with feed costs rising too.  Many people say we sell them too cheaply but I expect them to be unhappy when the price goes up.  Not many people sell genuine free range eggs round here especially with so many good colours - blue, dark brown, tinted, white, all in one box. In fact only one other person has these colours, for miles around, and we co-ordinate our pricing.
You can buy eggs that cheaply in some supermarkets but plenty of people are aware of the welfare problems of battery eggs and some are also aware that many eggs sold as 'free range' are not from truly free range hens in the way our hens are - they can see them from the road going about their independant business.  We only sell eggs which are surplus to our needs so we can't keep up with customers. But when we first started we sold more cheaply to get the customer base.

Hi we also sell for £1 per 6 eggs and everyone thinks it is way to cheap but we are happy to cover the cost of feed etc because they are our pets.  When we had a broody though I bought some eggs from the local Spar shop to keep her interested until the fertile eggs arrived as we didn't want to use our tasty eggs and they cost £1.39 for 6 and when I got home realised they were eggs from caged hens.  I was absolutely astounded that they could charge that price and I was even more peeved as I had just given cash over to support that industry!!  We are thinking of selling our blue and white eggs for £1 for 4 as we can get cute wee boxes that hold 4 eggs.  It does also cost more to produce these eggs as the hens don't lay as much per year but still enjoys the same amount of food as the other layers.

£1:50 for 6 chicken or 6 quail eggs here... I have a pretty regular customer base.

We recently put a sign on the gate (less sales when I'm on holiday from work!) and my O/H charged this bloke £2 for a dozen... then we saw he's got a "free range" sign on his gate but dont know what he charges - I'm going to go round and ask one day! And he has less space for for his hens, but ours are penned for their safety....

So, he bought your eggs to sell to his free range customers   You do well to get £1.50 for six.  People keep telling me our eggs are the best they have tasted, so maybe I should up the price!!

Thanks all - I make most of my money from selling my pure breeds. I just have a few layers that keep the family in eggs, with always a few spare. I think I'll carry on with £1 a dozen, but may see if I can negotiate a cake or 2 into the deal!

I'm a £1 per half dozen but probably only sell 1 or 2 half dozen per week. I give away a few to friends if the girls are doing well, but we only have 7 laying hens just now and yesterday I got 2 eggs, the day before only 1!!!!!! Kind of makes me yearn for a couple of hybrids in amongst them

You could get some nice hybrids from your breed list, but I'm guessing you don't have any cockerels!?
