I found another egg
« on: September 11, 2008, 10:21:23 pm »
For all those interested it looks like I might get some eggs soon as I found another very very small egg. I have created lovely nesting places all around my garden, all sheltered with straw and in the quiet and dry, so why do they seem to just drop the eggs in the open? Maybe because they are small they don't feel them drop out!!!!

hi SandY

I am glad your enjoying your hens, how many have you got? I hope business at the b&b has been good dispite weather. I checked out your website and your home is lovely.  My silkies are a joy and i would love some more.  I am still worried that they may turn out to be male so i think i might get some more just incase.  My husband has surprised me by taking to the hens in a big way, i think he thought they would be like normal birds and did not realise how tame they can be.  I think we got birds from the same supplier but i am reluctant to go back to him as my silkies are not a true colour and one has 4 toes rather than the normal 5 for the breed, bit pricey too. One of them has not really grown as much as the other and i think may be a runt. love them anyway, but could not use them for breeding.  How old are your hens now?  Do you know if any of the other ladies from the course are on the forum (sorry can't remember names)?  ???  I managed to buy grit at mcluskies by the kilo so did not have to buy huge bag for just the two, thanks for the offer anyway.  My silkies have been allowed to free range out of the run and into the back garden now.  The stick together like glue and whenever they see a human they run over to get fed.  I bought them some meal worms which wern't cheap but they adore them.  I even cook alittle pasta for them now and again.
