Any ideas on what to plant now

This is a long shot. We've just lifted our Onions and Garlic from one of the beds. So it annoys me that it's lying empty. Anybody got a good idea on what we could plant to make use of the bed. The other beds are all full. I may just plant comfrey.

now is time to sow..
sweet william, wall flower for spring flowering then replant when big enough
or you could still sow salad leaves keep under fleece or cloche and be ok still
maybe some onions from seed

Dont get worried about empty plots, ground needs to recover . I mulch my empty beds in Autumn(not to be used as root beds next year) with a good deep layer of poo then dig in in late spring. Keeps the weeds away and a beautiful manured plot ready to hit the ground, pardon the pun, running in spring.

green manures to dig in  help keep ground from leaching minerals and help keep weeds down  while lying fallow.can be used as part of your crop rotation system

Thanks for that. I agree with all of the comments. Most of the other beds will be fallow over the winter it just seems too early to leave this one empty. Might try the neeps option.

in a few weeks time , you could try some wheat, oats, barley or rye... or , all of them !!! If you did , just make sure you get winter types of the wheat , oats and barley . Oats and rye are almost un failable , sow them and they WILL grow . They would produce next year though , so you would be using your veg space if you are short on ground .

cheers
