chicken feed

just wondered if any of you change feed during colder months  i myself have thought id change to meal and add some warm water for there brekkie and evening meal  instead of pellets i know corn keeps them warm but any things you give to warm them up on a cold winters day?

I just add flaked maize to their meals in winter and dont do anything else. As long as they are dry and draught proofed they will be ok.

mine get porridge mixed with goats milk when its cold - oh and mashed potato!
Smallholding in Worcestershire, making goats milk soap for www.itsbaaathtime.com and mum to 4 girls,  goats, sheep, chickens, dog, cat and garden snails...

Another vote for porridge here - sometimes with mashed banana (but not too much!)

extra portion of grain before bedtime was suggested to keep them warm, porridge would do the same I suppose :chook: :&>

oats are really warming, ours love the "mixed flakes" we have for billy goat (like rabbit food without the coloured bits or grass pellets :) )

I make a winter feed block from porridge oats mixed with lard or vegetable fat and some handfuls of pigeon conditioning food. It contains aniseed and the chooks love it.   :yum: Mix it up and serve it in an old margarine tub.
