Earth Day April 22nd 2018
« on: April 22, 2018, 08:10:21 pm »
Today is Earth Day.  I had not heard about it before, but apparently it's observed in many countries far more than here.  As you would expect it's all about the environment and loving and caring for our Earth. Here we've been planting up our new woodland meadow in Soggy Bottom.  The trees are mainly alder, rowan, birch and guelder rose, with a lonesome pine.  The flowering plants are a large variety all native to our area, so everything we are growing is geared to supporting various kinds of wildlife, with nesting sites, pollen and nectar and plenty for invertebrates too with scruffy tussock grass.  Areas of wetland are good to have, and by planting native species here we are saving the area from being drained.  If only we could persuade our neighbour to plant a hedge carrying on downhill, we would have a wildlife corridor from the river in one valley, right over the hill to the next valley and on into town  :tree: :tree: :tree: :tree: :tree: .

Is anyone else celebrating Earth Day?

Oo, I would if I had known about it.  Next year!  It was a busy day here - last sets of lambs (and a mix-up ::) ), heifer bulling needing AI... an earthy day!  lol.
