There's an article in today's press and journal that says that Rhinds of Elgin might be closing down. We stopped using them when they changed from being a family run business to part of a bigger company but it's a shame if they do close.

With every one that closes it makes the argument for a mobile set up stronger, For a number of reasons we didn't use Dunblane and take ours to Shotts. Wish we could get a facility nearer.

people stopped using them as some did not get their own animals back. When you have rare breeds that is important. Most of us up here use Dingwall now!

Yes Sabrina, that's almost what happened to us. They 'lost' our shetlands and were very quick to offer us replacements from their stock. As you say the point of rearing your own is to appreciate the meat. The carcasses were eventually found and tasted amazing for being hung a little longer. We now use Dingwall but I don't think we'll be sending anymore away - too much hassle. We used to go to Grantown who had an eexcellent set up for slaughter and butchery but they messed us around one day- pigs were booked in through the office but the slaughter men wwouldn't take them as the message hadn't been passed on. We nearly had to bring them all the way home again but managed to get them killed.
