Abattoir in Northern Ireland
« on: January 23, 2018, 10:18:11 am »
Good morning everyone! :)

I was just wondering if anyone would know of any abattoirs in Northern Ireland that would take 2 pigs. I'm looking into raising a couple of weaners for meat, probably next year but only if I can find somewhere to send them on their final journey.

Thanks,
Paul

Hi paul - I think there are only two in NI that will work with small holders.  Grants in L/Derry, and can't remember the other, but in the same part of the world.

Did anyone find the name of the second abattoir that would take my 2 pigs when the time comes. A trip to Grants is a bit of a distance from my house.

Hi Jim Bob, the place that takes them is called Foyle Meats in Campsie, L’Derry just by the airport. That’s the only place that process pigs here.

I came across a farm who will sell the piglets to you and when they are ready for the abattoir they will collect them, take them to Grants for slaughter , take them back and butcher them for you. That’s the route I will be taking. I intend to get my piglets in January leaving them ready for slaughter by July

Hello,

I live in NI near Belfast and I'm looking for a way to get 3 or 4 pigs slaughtered each year.
Last year I went to Grants in Derry, but this is very time-consuming.

Any alternatives would be great.

Hi

I got your message earlier. I got my piglets from fort hill farm shop tandragee and they gave me the number of a man who brought my pigs to grants and collected them again and brought them back to the farm fir butchering. He was from the market hill area. I brought the pigs to him as I was in a position to do so.
