Figs and pigs
« on: August 31, 2008, 07:09:39 pm »
Hi,
Yet again looking for advice please, have been offered pulped figs and rape seed (OIL REMOVED) is this any good for pigs???????????

I am always looking for different foods but need to take into account all the food values, here in France they feed allsorts to their livestock but I need to make sure it has value to them.
Thanks
Carole

Carole,

I'd give it a go. Although (obviously) don't give them all figs - mix with pig feed. Figs have around 75 calories per 100g - pig feed would be around 100 -120 per 100g. As for rapeseed I wouldn't know but it gets a mention in a BPA document _ http://www.britishpigs.org/Newcastle_handbook_of_raw_materials.pdf     so I'd say it's OK.

Cheers

Just an update on pulped figs, they dont like it.
Have mixed with other favourite foods, measured it correctly- I hope, fed dry, wet like runny concerete and still they say NO, NO NO.

Can't blame them - I think figs are gross, too. However good they might be for you!
