need to replace our shogun and we are considering a jeep cherokee 2.8crd automatic (05 plate). cant find what the maximum towing capacity (MTC) of the vehicle is.  asked the garage and they say 2.8kb but i dont think that's correct - does anyone know, or better still have one and any idea what it can tow?

2800 kg gross provided the trailer is braked. Otherwise 750kg.

If you want towing ability look into a Nissan nevara?

that's what they reckoned too, but when i googled lots of sites seem to think 3500kg...too big a spend to get it wrong!

We have towed 3 ton with our 2.7D Grande Cherokee auto(03 plate) before, if that helps.

They go like stink and pull like a steam train. Word of caution though - Jeeps are main dealer parts only, which can mean ££££££.

However, we have found some great online Jeep breakers, who post parts same day. I broke the steering rack (don't ask). Jeep £750, breakers £120.

If you need the information for towing weights for most vehicles go to autotrader and pull up the model you require and each one usually has a set of tabs that gives you all the spec for the vehicle you want, the information is pulled directly from the manufacturer.  Hope this helps
Just a quick note the Jeeps have a question mark on the reliability on their gearboxes around the 60k miles mark, thats not cheap and head gasket will need changing out around that time, thats why I never got one, Got a Disco instead, bits for those are quite cheap in comparison
