Hi,
Has anyone grown Quinces before.
Are they easy to grow and do they fruit quite well.
Do they need shelter, full sun or what.

Hi, Elaine

In answer to your question, no. But I has quince cheese once at it was lovely. Try Deacons website - they are a supplier of fruit trees and I'm sure there will be some infromation on their site.

we grow Portugal quince on 3 smallholdings in Somerset and Monmouthshire. They tollerate a wide variety of soils and grow up to 800 feet but after about 10-15 years they have all started to drop their leaves in mid summer then regrow them. Try Scotts of Merriott in Somerset for good stock.

Quinces are easy to grow and very tough plants. Their fruit is very good in a liqueur - it's how we use them! You can grow them on very poor soil and they will flourish...
