I have pigs!!
« on: July 12, 2010, 07:35:59 am »
Hooray! They arrived on Sunday! I'm a little disappointed that I haven't managed to spend much time with them as both my feet are bust due to horse related incidents! (I can't wear shoes and can't get them wet!)

They are 4 Cornish Blacks ... 2 gilts and 2 boars. We shut them in the pig arc over night on sunday as it was getting dark and we wanted to see if they would test the fencing ... they did yesterday but haven't since!

They're beautiful! If still a little timid but I'm sure that will change once they start associating us with food! They have about half an acre to play in for the time being ... I'll try and get some pics this afternoon to show you all if I can sufficiently waterproof my feet and hobble down there!

My Other Half has called them Smokey, Streaky, Parma and Lardon !!!  ::) :pig:

What happened to your feet?  I always worry that if Hilary stood on mine they might need rebuilding.

Hey up Lucy You will have to have words wi the other half Lardon is not a very nice name for piggy Does he know what it means? It may get its own back and grow like one Hope the feet are feeling a bit better lass.Keep telling ya I hate horses They are lovely to watch car following or at ploughing matches or on films but the real thing bites at the front kicks at the back or walks sideways and stands on your feet as well as its own.But you know all about that! ??? :farmer: :wave:Kath says tell Lucy to get well soon

Thanks George & Kath!

HM - my big horse stood on me and rotated, breaking my toe and ripping my nail off ... ouch! I was very lucky though as the break is fairly small! No shoes for 6 weeks which is hard when it rains on the farm and even worse as no riding .... aarrgghh!!

Congrats on the pigs - sorry to hear about the rotating horse - ouch!
Good move shutting the new arrivals in the arc for the 1st night - we made the mistake of not doing that when our 4 boys arrived, then I was having freaks when they were out in the rain for the next 2 days hiding under the cornish hedge and not finding the arc!
Anyway got lots of support from the forum and the boys have been great - they are due to go in the next couple of weeks - it'll be sad to see them go but we are very much looking forward to the meaty rewards  :D
