Looking for ryeland ewes
« on: September 09, 2017, 08:20:44 pm »
I have a pedigree Ryeland ram I use for commercial purposes but am now looking to start my own little pedigree flock. Does anyone know of any ewes available in the Southwest? I am in Somerset.

Have you contacted the breed society?  They should be keen to help with a new, registered flock.

Yes, I have sent them a message via breed society website but not heard anything as yet.

I gave up on the breed society,  I tried contacting them a number of times a couple of years ago and i'm still waiting for a response.

There might be a facebook group for ryeland owners local to you ( I've used the Scotland one in the past and they were very helpful) alternatively I've found contact details in rare breed sales catalogues or from local show entry lists.

Hope that helps,
Cuddles

Yes please. That would be ideal. Thank You

It is now a week since I e-mailed the society and still haven't heard anything.

Just had this response. If you want to give me some contact details I will PM Stephen so that you can talk direct.

Stephen Ramsden[/font] Thanks Sally, as chair of the SW Ryeland Group, I will certainly do my best to put him in touch with someone suitable. There are a small number of ewes listed on the Grassroots 'for sale' register, but of course this is not accessible to non-members. It would be helpful to know the pedigree of his ram, so as to avoid close relatives.
Can't help myself, as not only are we in Devon, but we only have ewe lambs available, which I 'm guessing is not what he will want.

Leeds a bit far unfortunately. I see Yorkshire tends to be quite an active region where Ryelands are concerned.
