I am currently using a shed for handling, dosing and foot trimming my small flock of sheep, some of which have the start of foot rot.

 The shed has a crushed stone base and has been previously used heavily as a lambing shed. I doubt very much if it has been disinfected since last spring.

I was thinking of sprinkling hydrated Lime on the floor to act as a disinectant.

Is this a good idea? Could it burn them? Would you recommend a different disinfectant?

local farmer recommended using it where sheep like to congregate, in gateways, etc.

I used it on the floor after cleaning out the barn.

I would use a little hand held pump sprayer and something like Sorgene or Virkon which will kill diseases. Lime is ok in between lambing pens if you don't have time to clean out inbetween ewes and lambs but a proper disinfectant would be worth using I think. Then either footbath or treat your sheep for footrot with blue spray and oxytet antibiotics.

Davet thanks for the information on the Biolime for agriculture unfortunately none of my Aminal health merchants in my local area stock it.

Twizz thanks I am using formalin in the footbath and the purple antibiotic spray. I had forgotten about Virkon I will get some.

Hydrated lime is fine, it's not like they are standing there all day long.  But also get yourself some Defra approved disinfectant from your local agri store.

Have used hydrated lime in the bottom of lambing pens and we always put it in calf pens after spraying with jeyes fluid  when I was young
