How much ???
« on: July 09, 2010, 04:24:17 pm »
Before someone lynches me for this, i mean no malice.

I need you to follow this link & make your own minds up.

http://www.bid4poultry.co.uk/auction.asp?id=7066

Each to their own, but unless it's a multi show winning champion that lays/sires money eggs, pays my bills, cleans the house etc, then how can someone command such a price ?

Fair enough, the seller obviously has spent a lot of time on this, but it's a young bird & a rather expensive chicken supper if he doesn't have lead in his pencil.

Your thoughts please.

If there is some pillock out there willing to pay insane money such as that for a chicken , then I would not feel sorry for them if foxy came a calling and had himself a very expensive meal one night ....If I had some of those chickens would I sell them at that price ...? well , go back to the first line ...lol. Yes I would sell them to them at that price. But to a friend or any other normal person, I would most likely charge £5 or £10 ....

 cheers

There is a chocolate bantam pullet lower down the page at £325.00. Its cos their are chocolate coloured, and rare.

I personally would not spend that sort of money, but for serious breeders, I suppose like anything, there is someone out there who will.  Otherwise they would not ask that sort of price, surely?

A bit like dogs and dog shows - Crufts Best in Show Yogi is now worth a fortune - for stud fees.  But on the other hand he is used so much that almost all Vizsla pups have him in their pedigrees in multiple generations so any faults will be doubled up on - not that he has many, of course  ;) ;) ;)

I sold a chocolate orpington silkie cross cockerel for a fiver last week! I bought a trio for £45 at auction and only wanted the pullets ....

I read online about chicken rustlers in action in England, stealing birds - apparently the going rate for a chocolate orpington is £250 and for a light sussex £100 if you can believe that!

Market economy I guess - things are worth what people are prepared to pay.

Just noticed it is a large fowl - so it must be one of the first! Chocolate orps are normally bantams and I read that people were trying to breed a LF - looks like someone has managed it.

People will be insuring their chickens at this rate!
