Sore patch on ram
« on: August 26, 2017, 05:25:51 pm »
My ram lamb ( Dec born) has a sore patch underneath on his chest where he lies down, l've see it as a roughened place on the ewes. I have put some Engemycin spray on and he covered by clik but it seems to bother him i.e.
Any ideas how I can improve it or why he has it. He is in good condition (3-3.5) and I plan to put him in with the ewes mid October. He is with the younger ram lambs, I have just started giving them a little extra to eat and a mole valley feet and fertility tub.

Is it just bare skin or sore looking?  Is one of the ewes his dam?  If so, poor fleece in this area may be inherited.  If it's clean you could try a plastic wound spray to protect the skin from getting damp, which would make it soft and more liable to being compromised.
