I worked out that 2 weaners from the age of 8 weeks until 24ish weeks get through 15 x 25kg bags of feed. if you plan to take them longer just add on 5lb per day per pig until they go. Sorry about the lbs and kilo muddling, I still use both!!

And the cost of the boar, and if you are going organic you can only feed organic bread and fruit.  Also dont forget the extra feed when they get out or the vet comes etc.

jacob, yes, someone has 2 weaners from me each year, he buys 15 bags of food at £8 bag (25kg) takes them when its all gone! Although you can pay much less around £6 per bag (25kg) you have to shop around.

so really you need prob 8-10 sows producing average 10 each a year to make a few quid profit, one or two is not enough, of course id need a market first

I cant see any profit on just 8 or 10 from each sow, assume this is one litter per year.  You would probably cover the costs of the sows and boar and any you raise for meat for yourselves.  We were offered 80 euros per piglet taking aprox. 90 a year (they wanted organic) after doing my sums and chatting on here decided against it.  Like everyone says, go for freerange well cared for, come and see my pigs approach.

Definitely make sure you have a market first.  That's a lot of meat....or mouths to feed.
