The dog stop is a good shout actually. If your child carried one as he passed the gate and the dog came out, then he could blast the dog and the noise would be loud enough to allert everyone within a half mile radius. Perhaps the can could be stored near the entrance to the property?

I have to say as a out and out dog lover that this dog should be taken from these people immediately and if no home is available (RAF etc) then he should be put to sleep. I hate to say it because I feel that any dog can be rehabilitated given time. Unfortunately, the next child to get bitten will be too higher price to be paid.

Trouble is in this day and age, dogs have more rights than children ::) I have no rights whatsover to demand the dog is removed or destroyed that would be up to the court, and as this is the first reported offence the court would most likely not demand the dog is destroyed. Completely wrong in my view, as a responsible dog owner he should have had no doubt that the dog should be destroyed.

I'm with WP...I'd be looking for the first opportunity to nail it. Dogs have no right to bite children under any circumstances.

:pig:if i was in your position i would resort to the gun too a child has more rights than a out of control dog imo.

we had a similar problem a few years ago and resorted to using a dog stop it comes in a can and the dog gets a blast when it comes to attack the dog in question used to run away like the wind  and soon started to avoid us, the owner of the dog was not happy he said we hurt his dogs hearing  ::)
I have one of these - very effective - just compressed air in a can like the stuff you clean your keyboard with.
Always have been, always will be, a WYSIWYG - black is black, white is white - no grey in my life! But I'm mellowing in my old age
