Edward has his first day at school yesterday!
I took him to a group gundog training session in North Yorkshire. He was a little star a didn't take his eyes off me other than to say hello so a little chocolate cocker he was sure he knew! He did nearly 40 minutes of the class, which is a lot longer than I would ever train him for normally. I only took him along to see what the class did and do a bit more socialisation but I didn't get chance to explain that before being put in line with the rest of the class. I will take him again in another month and until then, I'm going to keep working on the basics and not be tempted to rush into new things! It is so tempting as he picks things up so quickly, but I know that I'll regret it if a spoil him by rushing him

Small Edward is growing up so fast. His gundog training is coming on leaps and bounds and it's soooo tempting to "just see if he can........" but so far I am resisting and sticking firmly to perfecting the basics before moving on. I have a strong feeling that this little dog is too good for me and could go much further someone better. Unfortunately he is stuck with me though as I am head-over-heels in love with him

I just have to hope I can do him proud.

Edward (now no longer "Small Edward"!), was placed first in his first ever Puppy Working Test on Saturday!
Very proud puppy mummy!! He's an absolute cracker, I just hope I can do him justice!

He really has grown. He's 10 months old today so I'm really hoping he's nearly finished!
He is such a lovely little chap, really nice to be around and loves his training. Now that his basics are established, I have upped the ante and everything is falling nicely into place :-) So far I have managed not to spoil him, but I do know how easily it can be done by just seeing if he could ......
The weekend before last I took him to a country fair and he got to meet up with three other pups his age which we had camped with last autumn. He's rather small compared to them! He is a bit of a mummy's boy though. He'll play with other dogs, but is not interested in other people at all.

Yesterday was the puppies first birthday! I can't believe it was a whole year ago since they were less that 400g little wrigglers!
I have emailed all of the pups owners to wish them all a happy birthday and see how they are getting on. All have replied with some lovely updates and photos. So nice to know that they are all getting on so well.
I took the day off work yesterday and we took our 2 pups to the beach for the day for a birthday treat. They had a fab time, despite poor Pip drinking half the ocean and suffering the consequences shortly after!
Edward has started doing some working tests and I'm pleased with his progress. So far he has had a first, a third and a COM (Certificate Of Merit) and has run well in two novice tests as well. He is still an absolute joy to own and train. I don't think I have ever come accross such an honest little dog and I'm looking forward to many years working alongside him.
His sister is another matter! She's a little sweetie too, but she is very independant and rather sneaky. If you explain to her (in the nicest possible way of course ;-)!) not to do something, like eating manure off the veggie patch, she will tell you how very sorry she is, and assure you that it was a simple mistake and will certainly not happen again. Then if you watch her out the kitchen window, she will wait a while watching the door, then sneak back to the veg patch, look over her shoulder to check no-one is looking and then resume her manurey feast. Upon opeing the door, she will sit and subtly spit out a mouthful of the offending substance and look at you with a look of "what?". Little modame!
