Hello Bamfords The old fashioned treatment was a preventative one.A grain or two of Permanganate of Potash was stirred into the chickens drinking water.It is believed that the bug? cannot tolerate this drinking water and is killed This treatment was carried out every other day It turns the water a red colour but the hens don't seem to mind.

Thats one I haven't heard of since I was a boy. It was used along with Epsom salts.

I use Cider vinegar from day old as the 'germs' can't handle the low ph in the gut.

Damp and dirty litter is a fatal combination for chicks who may be carriers, so keep the chicks/growers dry and clean.

iv been told that some off the young stock has this im going to VACCINAT vaccinated at 1 day old and for coccidiosis, mareks and I.B. with H120 but due to an influx of some very nasty continental strains of I.B. local conditions will determine the level of additional vaccinations necessary. Salmonella Vaccines in chickins are out, there has been no recorded positive salmonella test anywhere in the country amongst poultrey. Their use is nothing more than a commercial due diligence exercise and causes nothing but suffering and cruelty.
