Hello everybody

We have been looking into smallholdings for some time and have made the decision that this is something we both 100% want to do.

I have a career where remote working is (almost) the norm so we will have an aspect of financial freedom (we would not need the small holding to make money), but we have discussed the potential of working towards holiday lets / camping (perhaps).

We are currently working on compiling a list of requirements, wants and wishes and doing as much research as possible! I thought it would be a good idea to drop by here and say hi as this seems to be a great community with some fantastic advice.

Thanks for reading my post and I hope you are well!

Hi from Shropshire. I don't know why no one has been to say hello yet but I'm sure they will. You'll enjoy being a member of this forum and will learn a lot. Ask all you want. Someone will have the answer.

Does anybody have advice on where to search for smallholdings listed for sale?

I'm keeping an eye on 'on the market'. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

We are looking in the area roughly 2 hours from Bristol, so mid/south wales, north devon etc etc, although we would consider anywhere south of the peak district :).

Thanks!

Rural scene have some.

Then it’s finding the right agents in the areas of interest.  Eg down here (Cornwall, Devon, Somerset) it’s the likes of Phillip Dunn, Kivells and Nancekivell, with Webbers having the odd one and Stags being only if you’re made of money ;)

Get local papers and use the internet, and work out which agents get the right sort of properties.  Then strike up a relationship with the most likely ones and stay in touch, so they think of you first and call you before things get advertised more widely ;)

Don't listen to the money men - they know the price of everything and the value of nothing

Live in a cohousing community with small farm for our own use.  Dairy cows (rearing their own calves for beef), pigs, sheep for meat and fleece, ducks and hens for eggs, veg and fruit growing

I agree with Sally about Rural Scene, as well as keeping in touch with good local estate agents.

We live one hour from Bristol, on the Somerset Levels, and found Greenslade Taylor Hunt to be a very good agent. They really understand rural properties and take time to find out what you really want from your land and property. They even made some useful suggestions that we hadn't thought about. They have a good website but there is nothing like phoning them up and finding out about local possibilities.

Good luck with your search. :fc:
