Woven weed membrane - best source/price
« on: April 16, 2018, 08:49:58 pm »
Just wondering whether anyone can suggest a good (competitive prices) supplier of woven weed membrane.
If you can, what amount were/are you buying at any one time?
I need to ring around, but hoping to narrow down the list of suppliers I might choose to ring.

Out of curiosity how much of an area are you looking to cover?

cans,  I can't give a simple answer to your question.  There will be small planting areas (amounting to hundreds of square metres overall) where I will use weed-sheet regardless of the price I can find.  Then I am thinking about various perennial plantings that might benefit from a weed-sheet to reduce maintenance time/effort - these might (in time) extend to 5 acres, but I've not decided yet.

That’s a lot of weed control fabric.

Craigmarloch nurseries ltd on the outskirts of Glasgow might be worth looking at

What about the likes of wickes or jewsons?

To cans:  yeah, that would be a "lot of weed control fabric" and I'm not about to remortgage the house for weed-free acres!!  However, if I could only find a decent price (substantially less than £0.40/m sq) I might be tempted to "push the boat out" a bit beyond the few hundred m sq that I presently have in mind.  (I'll take a look at Craigmarloch, ta.)

To DavidandCollette: you are right, but I've yet to find anyone advertising for less than £0.40/m sq.  Thanks though and I'm sure there will be bulk deals @ a better price if I ring around, but was hoping I could narrow down the list of telephone numbers to call.

Our local allotment society sells it for 60p per meter (if I remember correctly) but it's 4 metres wide! We couldn't find it anywhere cheaper than that!
Growing loads of fruits and vegetables! Raising dairy goats, chickens, ducks, rabbits on 1/2 acre in the middle of the city of Leicester, using permaculture methods.

Thanks Scotsdumpy and macgro7 for your replies.
I think I've already book-marked LBS and I'll go back for another look.
Must have a chat with couple of neighbours with allotments!!
