can goats be sensetive to some shampoos?
it just dawned on us today that molly has these bald patches on her since we last washed the girls.
milly is fine(as allways)
so we would like to know if molly might need a less stronger shampoo?
hope i have made myself clear.
thanks langdon ;) :goat:

How often are you bathing the goats Langdon?  Just wondered if you are overdoing the cleaning :D  Animals have a natural oil in their coat to protect them against the cold and rain, and too much washing can take away these oils.  I suppose like us, goats can react against certain ingredients.  Is it something strong you are using - try a milder one, and see if there is a difference.  One of the childrens shampoos maybe?!!!

Why do you bath them?I have never bathed a goat in my life! I can understand for shows but not as normal practice. Mine would go mental if I bathed them, it was fun trimming their feet lastnight though ::) :goat:

You can get animal shampoos especially for whites from pet shops and equestrian places. Cant say if they are any good or just novelty horsey products.

It is a good practice to give them a bath to get dust/hay seeds etc out of their coat- but once a year is enough! I have fund dermoline to be quite strong for some goats, as it is supposed to be diluted before you put it onto them. We use very cheap human shampoo for our coloured goats (supermarket own brand), and generally use white horse shampoo for the white goats.
