I am asking this one for a friend - I havent seen it myself yet but she has a sunflower which was growing nicely, got a bit of a flower head on it, which seems to have been demolished by ants and bugs. However she says it looks like a few more heads are growing on it now.

Is this right, could sunflowers have more than one head? If she removed the eaten head, do you think a new one would sprout?

Yes, I had loads of sunflowers last year and many of them were multi headed.  Perhaps it depends on the variety though.

Yes, we had a multi headed one last year too - only grew to about 4 ft high, but had 7 flower heads on it. I don't know what variety it was though, it came out the bird feeder lol!

I'm growing red sunflowers this year and they are a bush type. Much shorter than you would expect for a sunflower and loads of heads. Maybe your friends sunflower is one of the bush varieties? If so, she'll get lots more.
