Mastiff Breeds ... Milky spots in eyes
« on: June 16, 2010, 01:30:48 pm »
Does anyone have any experience of this?

I have 3 dogs, one of which is  Neopolitan Mastiff x Alano Espanol ... about 9 months ago we noticed small milky patch in one of his eyes. We took him to the vet who advised it is a fatty deposit on the lense of his eye. He advised there is nothing which can be done to remove it but that it will not affect him more than a scratch on a pair of glasses would us.

This spot has gotten a fair bit bigger and now covers about half of his pupil ... he also has a tiny spot in his other eye ... true to what the vet said, it doesn't seem to affect him at all ... if we throw a ball or he see's a rabbit he is bang on the trail at lightening speed.

I went back to the vet with all 3 recently for a general check up and he advised that if we become very concerned about his eyes, he can refer us to an eye specialist but that the operation is very risky.

We obviously won't be doing anything unless he becomes unhappy in himself or his quality of life is affected but I'm just wondering if anyone has experienced this?

Thanks in advance! :dog: :)

No experience of either mastiffs or this eye problem - but this may help

Always have been, always will be, a WYSIWYG - black is black, white is white - no grey in my life! But I'm mellowing in my old age
