broody chook - no eggs from the others!
« on: June 14, 2010, 08:01:50 pm »
This is day 3 with lady not moving from her nest. Where do the others lay? I don't want to disturb her (yet) to count eggs. does one broody hen put the others off the lay? Earlier they did lay in the garden very occasionally but the eggs were easy to find normally, like on the lawn... :chook: :chook: :&>

Hi I am having this problem too - I am getting one a day , laid in the nest beside the broody but the other 4 have stopped entirely! Like yours mine had taken to laying under plants and in the borders but even that has stopped. I was wondering about magpies as I have some hanging around - but it seems to be a widespread phenomenon if you read other posts.
I wonder if the same is happening in battery farms? Will we be seeing eggs selling at £5 a dozen soon? ::) ;D ???

Hi

We are having the same problem, we have 4 hens gone broody and the rest have still another 6 nesting boxes but the egg production has dramatically dropped. Any ideas would be welcome. We have 41 chickens and yesterday only got 11 eggs. We also have 14 ducks, 6 of which are only 21 weeks and we got 11 duck eggs yesterday. Doesn't seem right......
