another broody duck
« on: June 10, 2010, 03:47:43 pm »
I know I've asked this last year...one of my girls has started sitting on her eggs outside. Will it be worth it catching her, putting her eggs with her in the eglu (with run) or will she reject them if she's unhappy without her large family? I can't let her do it outdoors but we'd love to let her give it a go...dilemma!! :&>

Ducks are fickle about the smallest changes, my guess is your best chance is to leave her to it where she is, and even then she may just get bored and walk off. If you change her surroundings I think you have very little chance. Why do you want to eglu her?
Are you worried about foxes?

yup, we had wild pheasants nesting here each year and towards the end we could collect the bones from under the hedge...so none of my birds is allowed to stay outdoors at night :&>
